Igniting our Spiritual Intelligence through Souldrama®: A New Holistic Group Model to Enrich Our Lives, Our Relationships, and Our World
Today Spiritual Intelligence is considered by many to be the most important of our intelligence and has the power to transform our life, civilization, the planet and the course of history. How do we move from immature ego-driven behaviors - from competition to co-creation? How can we develop the ability to hear the voice of our higher self, to understand and transcend the sound of our ego, and to be guided by profound wisdom and compassion? Souldrama®, an outgrowth of psychodrama, is an experiential group method that aligns all three of our intelligence, the rational, emotional and spiritual to move past the resistance in our lives and to ignite our spiritual knowledge. Multiculturally, it crosses diversity by putting spirituality into action within the group promoting cross-cultural growth and understanding through connection, creativity, and spontaneity.
This new holistic group action model has been published as a new action model for the 12-step recovery program (Miller, 2013).
We are all agents of change. The task of this generation is to cut through the illusion that we live in separate worlds. Today, if we want to change systems, we have to change human behavior; however, human behavior is not so easily replaced. The primary responsibility of a genuine group leader today is to improve the motivations that drive behavior, enabling people to achieve real transformation. The only way the world will be transformed is for individuals to make changes in individual levels of consciousness. A knowledgeable person is not one who can memorize words and numbers; it is someone who can relate 'intelligently' to all the opportunities, simulations and problems provided by the environment. We can develop our rational intelligence with the internet and computers by ourselves; we can access our Emotional Intelligence by ourselves; however, we cannot build our Spiritual Intelligence alone for the key words here are to relate and to interact.
No matter where we live, a large and essential part of our spiritual journey is the power and the fellowship of the group. Our need to talk, interact and be with each other is part of our development. If we want to be sensitive to others and make our intentions conscious, we need to examine ourselves in relationship to others. A group is the most feasible method for initiating, improving and evaluating connections. In a world that is rapidly changing, in both technology and the social and cultural realms, social norms are stretched, roles are changing, and people are looking globally to find a sense of meaning, social and spiritual connectedness. For this to happen requires the development of the capacity for creativity, and that in turn involves the integration of language, rationality, perception, intuition, emotion, imagery, and the felt sense of the body in action.
Through taking the steps to spiritual transformation, Souldrama aligns the ego (personality) with the soul so that our rational, emotional and spiritual intelligences are in balance-mind, body and soul!
Action Methods is the term used to describe visual and role-based approaches to individual and group work. These methods are derived from Psychodrama and Sociometry, which were developed originally by JL Moreno and have subsequently been applied to many contexts: organizsational, educational, community.
They can be used for personal and professional work, for example job and relationship choices, conflict management, strategic planning, team building, review meetings, training and development events and community consultation.
Souldrama® was founded and developed by Connie Miller, NCC, LPC, TEP, ACS. in 1997 and trademarked in 1999 as a therapeutic tool created for use as an adjunct to psychodrama and designed to move clients from co-dependency to co-creativity. Connie is the founder of the International Institute of Souldrama and also the owner of
Spring Lake Heights Counseling Center. She is a Trainer, Educator, Practitioner of Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy and is recognized as a Fellow for the American Society of Psychodrama, Soctometry and Group Psychothrapy where she received the 2011 Innovators Award. She received the Thelma Duffy award from the American counseling Association for cretivity and cutting edge practice for Souldrama. She is an Approved Clinical Supervisor .
Souldrama is now being used as a new model for the 12 Step program.
She has had articles on this approach published in our own International Journal of Action Methods (in 2000), more recently also in the Korean Psychodrama Journal, "Souldrama: a psychotherapeutic technique to access spiritual intelligence", the Journal of Creativity in Mental Health, and a chapter in the recently published anthology from Routledge Publishers titled "Psychodrama: Advances in Theory and Practice. She is the author of many articles which have been translated in various languages integrating psychology and spirituality moving psychodrama to another level, that of the transpersonal. Her most recent article names Souldrama as the new holistic model for 12 Step recovery.
All workshops and trainings offer training hours for the American Board of Examiners.

Hora, also known as Tinos, is the island’s welcoming capital and port. Though the harbourfront is lined with cafes and hotels, and the narrow backstreets are packed with restaurants, Hora’s crowning glory is its Church of Panagia Evangelistria, perhaps the most important pilgrimage site for the Greek Orthodox religion.
Two main streets lead up to the church. Evangelistria is lined with shops and stalls crammed with souvenirs and religious wares, while Leoforos Megalocharis has a carpeted strip down the side, used by pilgrims crawling towards the church and pushing long candles before them. Religion certainly takes centre stage in Hora (woe betide the tourist looking for a room on one of the high holy days), but the town still hums with the vibrancy of a low-key island port.
Enchanting yet still unknown to the majority of tourists, this Cycladic island mostly attracts Greek pilgrims travelling there twice a year, on March 25 and August 15, to visit the church of Panagia Megalochari (the Blessed Virgin Mary). From all over the country, people come here to fulfill their vows and to seek comfort. Tinos is the most important Orthodox centre of worship in Greece but, in the same time, an important Catholic centre too; this so rare in Greece mix of religious traditions gives to the island a particular character.
But a pilgrimage is not the only reason for getting to know the amazing island of Tinos, with the beautiful beaches and the 40 traditional villages, or, according to the philosopher Kastoriadis, the “hand-made Tínos”.This island is the homeland of renowned great artists of marble carving such as Gyzis, Lytras, Chalepas, Filippotis and Sochos, who have been the last famous names to have held the baton of the island’s marble-carving tradition. According to the legend, the famous sculptor of the ancient times, Fidias, had taught the secrets of his art to the locals. Their admirable craft is displayed in chapels, fountains, arches and pigeon lofts. In the village of Pýrgos the Marble Art Museum is worth a visit as much as the Gallery of Tinian Artists right next to the church of Virgin Mary.
Location
Tinos is situaded in the Aegean Sea and it belongs to the Northern Cyclades complex. It is the third biggest island of the Cyclades after Naxos and Andros.
It’s quite close to Athens and very easy to get here. There are many itineraries throughout the day and you can leave either from Piraeus or from Rafina, which is very close to Eleftherios Venizelos Athens International Airport. It takes 2-4 hours from Rafina and 2.5-5 hours from Piraeus, depending on the type of vessel you choose, either a conventional F/B or a high speed vessel. Tinos is very close to Mykonos, which has an international airport too and is also connected to Syros, Andros, Paros and Naxos.
